Rebuilding and repositioning Nigeria’s armed forces: The 2015-2023 journey, By Tolu Ogunlesi

Image
Rebuilding and repositioning Nigeria’s armed forces: The 2015-2023 journey, By Tolu Ogunlesi   In his final weeks in office, former President Muhammadu Buhari played his Commander-in-Chief role to the hilt, attending the Trooping and Presentation of Colours Parade of the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy’s Presidential Fleet Review, and a Regimental Dinner hosted in his honour by the Defence Headquarters. At each event, he dressed in ceremonial military uniform, appearing as a Field Marshal, Admiral of the Fleet, and Marshal of the Air Force, respectively. These events were a fitting culmination of eight years as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Eight years that saw the biggest investment by any Administration in almost forty years. For the Nigerian Navy, the Buhari scorecard includes twenty Capital Ships, and more than 300 other platforms, including locally-built ones: Riverine Patrol Boats, Rigid Hall Inflatable Boats (RHIBs), River Town B...

KEYAMO TAKES BATTLE OVER SPV SAGA TO APPEAL COURT; FILES APPEAL AGAINST COURT ORDER DISMISSING SUIT TO COMPEL INVESTIGATION OF ATIKU

Image
KEYAMO TAKES BATTLE OVER SPV SAGA TO APPEAL COURT; FILES APPEAL AGAINST COURT ORDER DISMISSING SUIT TO COMPEL INVESTIGATION OF ATIKU  Earlier today, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, filed an appeal against the ruling of the Hon. Justice J.K Omotosho of the Federal High Court dismissing his suit which sought to compel law-enforcement agencies to investigate ATIKU Abubakar over the SPV saga. We have raised an initial four grounds of appeal with a possibility of raising additional grounds of appeal. (Find the initial copy attached) Mr. Keyamo has a rich history of taking it upon himself to challenge unconstitutionality, corruption and the breach of the rule of law by public officials. Like ALL lawyers from time immemorial, he has won some, lost some and some are still pending in court. That is what the struggle is all about. And that is THE SAME SITUATION with our legal icons of blessed memories. This case is not an exception. The battle will be taken all the way to the ...

WHY RIBADU WAS NOT GIVEN APPOINTMENT DURING BUHARI'S REGIME-SHEHU SANI

Image
. In a post via his verified Twitter handle, Senator Shehu Sani wrote,  “The appointment of Nuhu Ribadu as the new NSA is commendable." This was how he gave the hint. Who knows whether this may turn to be true. He went to say that Ribadu was a Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. was not given any appointment during Buhari 8 year administration because people ensure the former EFCC boss was in the black book of these powerful men. “I was quiet aware of the vicious and envious persons who ensured that Ribadu was denied any appointment in the last eight years because of the reason that he was not a buharist." And he wishes Ribadu to succeed in dealing with Nigeria security challenges “The challenge before him is addressing our security challenges. I wish him all the best.”

Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF Visit Buhari, Thank him for Service to Nigeria-Garba Shehu

Image
According to Garba Shehu. ". As the former President Muhammadu Buhari settles in at home in Daura following his hand over power to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Timubu as President, he continues to receive visits from different parts of the country, coming to thank him for serving the country and ending meritoriously. The latest of these visitors were serving and former Governors under the auspices of the NGF, who praised his efforts in national development and wishing him a good rest. The former President thanked the visitors for coming to him in Daura, reminding them that a big responsibility rests on their shoulders. “I thank you all from my heart. You have given me immense love for the past eight years. It is hard to think of any past Nigerian leader who has received such love,” saying that he remained eternally grateful to them all. He urged them to get together to serve the country and its people, describing democracy as one of the nation’s greatest strengths. Govern...

Removing the fuel subsidy is the best thing to do .-Fayosa

Image
Former EkitiGovernor Peter Fayosa wrote on a social Media. On this removal of fuel subsidy, I am convinced that President Tinubu has taken the best and the wisest decision for the collective good of Nigeria and its people. He promised to remove subsidy, he never hide it. Most importantly too, the immediate past govt already removed fuel subsidy technically by not making provision for it in the 2023 budget.   I appeal to Nigerians to bear with the govt for now as the present hardship will ease out with time. Removing the fuel subsidy is the best thing to do and it has to be done once and for all. Unfortunately too, the subsidy regime had only been benefiting a few people in the oil industry and Nigeria must break this chains once and for all.   No doubt, President Tinubu is not a magician who can manufacture money. He can only strategically reposition the country, using his experience and intellect, which he has started. Many govts have come and paid l...

First Speech by newly sworn-in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Image
Inaugural Address by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu 29 May 2023 My Fellow Citizens, I stand before you honoured to assume the sacred mandate you have given me. My love for this nation is abiding. My confidence in its people, unwavering. And my faith in God Almighty, absolute. I know that His hand shall provide the needed moral strength and clarity of purpose in those instances when we seem to have reached the limits of our human capacity. This day is bold and majestic yet bright and full of spirit, as is our precious nation. As a nation, we have long ago decided to march beyond the dimness of night into the open day of renewed national hope. The question we now ask ourselves is whether to remain faithful to the work inherent in building a better society or retreat into the shadows of our unmet potential. For me, there is but one answer. We are too great a nation and too grounded as a people to rob ourselves of our finest destiny. This nation’s journey has been shaped by t...

MY WORST EXPERIENCES AS BUHARI'S SPOKESPERSON.-GARBA SHEHU

Image
In a chat with BBC Garba Shehu said: “When Boko Haram killed more than 50 farmers, some were even saying they are 110 in Zabarmari Borno State, and the abduction of more than 300 girls in Kankara Katsina State. “In all these two incidents, security authoritatively told me false information, I used it but later was proven otherwise. Like Kankara case where about 300 girls were abducted but the persons that should ideally know the situation told me that those kidnapped were not more than 10, I am still in pain of these. “I publicly issued the statement, these girls have parents and relatives, they might have felt we were downplaying the seriousness of the situation, I saw them when they were released, they were 270, I regretted saying they were not more than 10. “The same happened on Zabarmari case, I was told wrong information and I made it public. The things are past now and I have apologized.”

BUHARI IS A MISTAKE TO NIGERIA- RENO OMOKRI

Image
On May 29, 2015, when President Goodluck Jonathan handed over the Presidency of Nigeria to General Buhari, the nation's Gross Domestic Product was $509.9. Please do not take my word for it. Verify it by yourself. In 2023, as General Buhari prepares to hand over the Presidency to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, our Gross Domestic Product is an estimated $450 billion. From the above, General Buhari's statement in his so-called farewell broadcast to the nation, in which he said, “I am confident that I am leaving office with Nigeria better in 2023 than in 2015", is a very provocative and blatant lie. In 2015, we only had a national security threat from Boko Haram. Today, we have national existential threats from Boko Haram, bandits; and unknown gunmen, amongst others. In 2015, the Naira was ₦199 to $1. Today, it is ₦750 to $1. In 2015, our total foreign debt was $10.7 billion. Today, it is almost $50 billion. In 2015, Nigeria was 136 in Transparency International's...

BUHARIA SETTING TRAPS FOR THE INCOMING ADMINSTRATION OF TINUBU.-Shehu Sani

Image
In his Twitter account @ShehuSani,  Senator Shehu Sani makes some comment about BUHARI and his 8 years performance as the executive president of Nigeria.  ".He led the country without any economic direction. He presided over a Government that failed to secure the lives of Nigerians;63k dead,3m IDPs & 366k refugees in neighbouring countries. He failed to restructure as he promised. He granted waivers to the rich & impoverished the poor.He closed the borders for those who import bags of rice on motorcycles and permitted those who use the ships. He built magical pyramids that disappeared after three days.He left uncompleted projects with huge debts to service for decades. He enabled, enriched & reinforced a cabal for 8 years. He appointed & retained failures and reward them with extensions. He was weak in taking decisions & runway when it’s tough. He has no house in London but made london his home.He left behind record inflation, record devaluation,reco...

APC’s campaign team 3023

Image
2023: Lalong, Oshiomhole lead APC’s campaign team August 3, 2023 By Clifford Ndujihe, Politics Editor & John Alechenu, LAGOS Subject to ratification by President Muhammadu Buhari, Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, will co-ordinate the presidential campaign council of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, as director-general. His deputy will be former Edo State Governor and ex-National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. In the opposition PDP, crises stemming from the presidential primaries and nomination of running mate has paused efforts to raise a campaign council. Sources told Vanguard, yesterday, that APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima; and APC governors settled for the duo after a meeting in Abuja on Monday. Indeed, Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, after the meeting told journalists that a director-general had been picked for the APC  presidential campaign council but refused to d...

SAM OMATSEYE VS ORJI UZOR KALU

Image
Qrji Uzor Kulu Sam Omatseye The fight between Omatseye and Kalu The altercation between ace columnist, Sam Omatseye and frontline politician, business mogul cum newspaper publisher, Orji Uzor Kalu, finally brought to the fore one issue which many observers have been talking about in subdued tones, despite its devastating effects on both the journalism profession and the polity. For some of us, it is a welcome development since by it, both the country and the media trade may become saved by the growing impunity in the latter, wherein so-called newspaper publishers have turned newsrooms and their editors into instruments for political warfare. It is a trend which many men of the pen profession have themselves complained about but in hushed tones, in what appears like an amazing connivance. Now that prominent figures in the media are becoming victims, there is hope that we may be getting to the end of this ugly state of affairs. read  more

SAM OMATSEYE CALLS PETER OBI OBITUARY

Image
SAM OMATSEYE Obi-tuary By  Sam Omatseye   Peter Obi   Suddenly, it is all quiet on the eastern front. No street heckles or flag waving or mooning over a yellow sun, no hooting or baying in public. The rabble no longer raves. Few wonder what happened to the Nnamdi Kanu crowd. Some may wonder if they are withering? The answer is before our eyes. The Biafran babblers are alive and well. They just swapped icons, rechristened the shrines and rewrote the rites. They left the prophet for a secular priest. They have had a switch of battle gear. Maybe it is not quiet. We can hear and feel the cacophony. The chants and caterwauling are everywhere, especially on the phones. The twitter bees, the Instagram grimes, the Facebook freaks. They are alive and well, but they have not been at war at the side of their icon, who is griping in detention. It’s farewell Kanu. Welcome Obi, at least until the new priest peters out. They are at his worship. They embrace it be...
